TMD Diagnosis and Treatment

Temporomandibular joint disease (TMD) is a debilitating dysfunction of the jaw joint aggravated by trauma such as whiplash, over usage, poor movement patterns, teeth grinding, and emotional stress. The actual malfunction may involve ligaments, muscles or bone.

TMD treatment

TMD is a condition accompanied by a combination of various symptoms: headaches; toothaches; earache, dizziness, tinnitus-ringing in the ears; clicking and popping of the jaw, difficulty opening or closing the jaw; neck pain; and face pain.

Treatment includes an in-depth history and examination, x-rays, and impressions of the upper and lower teeth. An individually designed mouth splint will help the muscles and joints return to optimum position and function.
